A PERFECT PARTNERSHIP FOR SHEFFIELD HOTELS
TWO of Sheffield’s largest, independently owned hotels have today announced the launch of a new business partnership.
The Rutland Hotel on Glossop Rd and The Cutlers Hotel in heart of Sheffield’s Theatreland, have joined forces and come up with an initiative to grow and encourage tourism in the region, as well as positioning themselves as two of Sheffield’s most unique hotels.
The hotels’ directors, Craig Dowie and Amandeep Sandhu, were introduced to each other on a recent facility trip to Barcelona organised by Business Link South Yorkshire to strengthen international connections and to encourage and inspire tourism business. The trip was an resounding success, as not only did it result in a solid business partnership, but the pair have also become firm friends.
Craig Dowie, Hotel Director at The Rutland Hotel said: “When Amandeep and I met, we hit it off straight away, as it was clear right from the start that we shared the same business philosophy.”
He continued: “We are both committed to offering an excellent standard of city accommodation at an affordable price, combined with a truly personal service and the attention to detail which is lacking from the sometimes faceless accommodation that is often the norm in city hotel chains.”
Amandeep Sandhu, Hotel Director at The Cutlers Hotel agreed: “Although we are targeting slightly different markets, in the sense that one is slightly outside the centre and one is right in the heart of the city, we are nethertheless, competing for Sheffield’s hotel business. However, we realised quite early on, that instead of viewing each other as rivals, a combined marketing and PR initiative would be beneficial to both hotels and would strengthen our offering. Two heads are better than one, as they say !”
The Rutland Hotel and The Cutlers Hotel are committed to supporting the local economy, using local suppliers wherever possible, as well as maintaining a strong connection with Sheffield’s historical past and present, in terms of art and culture. Both hotels are working closely with other tourism destinations and businesses in Sheffield and South Yorkshire to put the region firmly on the map.
Tourism is an important part of the Yorkshire and Humber economy and in 2003 it contributed income of £4.2 billion. It is estimated that the UK tourism industry will be worth £100 billion by 2010.

RUTLAND’S STAYING POWER HELPS RAISE THE POUNDS FOR CHARITYOne of Sheffield’s best loved hotels has joined forces with a major city hospital appeal.
Guests at The Rutland Hotel are being given the option to add a pound to the price of a stay and all proceeds will go towards Neurocare’s ground breaking ‘Brainwave Appeal’.
The campaign has already brought one SonoWand brain scanner to the city, but now it is raising the funds needed to buy the last two scanners for use during surgery at Sheffield Children's Hospital and the city’s Royal Hallamshire Hospital.
The scanners will mostly be used to help patients with benign or malignant tumours and to locate a brain haemorrhage. Brain surgeons at the hospitals have greeted the sophisticated equipment as “the biggest breakthrough for brain surgery since intra-operative MRI” saying they will make difficult surgery safer for patients.
The Rutland Hotel on Glossop Road in Sheffield, has recently benefited from over £1million worth of investment. The hotel’s bar, restaurant, conference rooms, wedding suites and bedrooms have been dramatically transformed to create one of Sheffield’s most distinctive hotels, where Victorian tradition meets contemporary living.
The hotel’s 63 en-suite bedrooms have been individually designed by Blueprint Interior Designers and are due for completion in August.
The completed rooms will be decorated with warm and luxurious fabrics, which will be enhanced with mood lighting to create the perfect ambience. Other features include Wi-fi installation to allow guests’ easy and no-nonsense communication, 32“ LCD TV’s, plus stylish fixtures and fittings. The spacious bathrooms will include special features such as walk in wet rooms and corner showers and baths. All rooms will be complemented with modern art, digital wallpaper and bespoke furniture to create a very distinctive and unique appearance and the ultimate in contemporary chic.
Katey Dent, sales manager at the Rutland Hotel, said: “Neurocare is a charity that we’ve heard lots about and it was recommended to us by my friends, some of whom know people who’ve undergone brain surgery at the Royal Hallamshire Hospital.
Our hotel is also right next to the hospital and we’ve had lots of people staying at the hotel over the years who have been treated there. With the help of our loyal guests, we hope to raise lots of money for a very worthwhile local cause.”
Lesley Eland, Neurocare’s Fundraising Director, said: “We’re really pleased that the Rutland Hotel has decided to launch its commitment to our campaign in this way and I’d like thank all the staff and guests at the hotel for lending us their support.”
